In October 2024 Wiltshire Council supported their Officer’s recommendation at Planning Committee to approve outline planning permission for the erection of up to 66 dwellings at land on the edge of North Bradley near Trowbridge (PL/2023/10205).
The greenfield site had previously been refused permission and is located beyond the existing settlement boundary of the village. As a result, its proposed development is in conflict with adopted Core Strategy and Neighbourhood Plan policy that resists new housing beyond settlement boundaries. However, in this instance, Officers and Councillors were persuaded to support the scheme by Welbeck Strategic Land due to the Council not being able to demonstrate a sufficient housing land supply at the time, and any adverse impacts of the proposal not significantly outweighing the benefits of needed market and affordable housing.
During the course of the application, there were objections made by some local residents, but the application also prompted submissions of support from a number of people in the local area that are looking to move into their own home, whether to buy or rent. The Applicant was able to refer to such letters of support at the Committee meeting.
